so, a while back... i was at the grand opening of the new Topshop @ The Bay and there was a live band playing. as i shopped (leopardbooties.leopardbooties.leopardbooties.LEOPARDBOOTIES!), i listened to the group and found myself really liking them. by the time i was done, so were they... i guess i missed out. but as my luck would have it, i ended up on the escalator with them and they were lost (ha ha!) and i directed them to the exit, in exchange for the name of the band. Friendly Fires.

every year, MAC launches their Viva Glam campaign which consists of a lipstick & lipglass for sale with 100% of the proceeds going to AIDS charities. it's a very successful and admirable cause that is so easy to be a part of, as you get a great addition to your make up drawer, while helping those in need...

since the colours get revamped every year, they also have a different spokesperson every year... varying from Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera, Eve, Fergie, Mary J... and last year, being my fav, with Lady GaGa & Cyndi Lauper.

...for 2012, i'm not sure i have the same feelings... Nicki Minaj and... Ricky Martin????????? Nicki, i get it. excellent choice. but Ricky Martin?? womp, womp. i mean, it's not that fact that he's a man... but... is it just because he's gay? i don't really equate him and cosmetics... if you are going to choose a man for a cosmetics campaign, at least pick one that makes sense. i dunno, Adam Lambert? one of those emo dudes in those emo bands (sorry, names/bands escape me)?? nails inc. nail polish "Crystal Colour" special edition bottles... it's basically their regular nail polish with special crystal caps. they change colours from season to season, varying on trends. i specifically want it in Porchester Square... a soft dove grey. sure, i could get the regular bottle and save $10, but... it's not as pretty!

michelle's engagement/wedding has been a year long adventure...

we'll start with the bachelorette party thrown by the most wonderful bridesmaids EVER (ahem, that includes me ;)

everyone met at the bride's house for a little gathering... Halloween themed, of course. there was a wide range of costumes, butterflies, witches, a greek goddess, little red riding hood, FBI agents, a beer wench (my costume... the irony is that i don't even like beer!) and a rag doll (the bride).

the usual party stuff happened while we waited for our surprise "ride"... drinks, snacks, various squeals and jokes... we had a gift session, which lets face it, was really gifts for the groom. i'm pretty sure she'll never have to buy sexy underwear again...

then our pink party bus (stripper pole and karaoke included!) came to pick us up... and i'll let the pictures tell the rest!!!

i'm excited to finally get my hands on a bottle of Nails Inc magnetic nail polish... the whole line is supposed to show up at sephora some day... but these are what i'll have to settle with until then.

more specifically, i got Trafalgar Square, a metallic silver/chrome colour... i wouldn't have minded getting Big Ben which was gold (sold out), but i'll pass on Houses of Parliament purple (yup, sold out too). not too into dark/vampy purples anyways.

i've had a lot of KD in my life... and never get sick of it. everywhere i go, i try to eat mac & cheese... but i've had a few bland ones recently that have worried me...

...all that changed when jen and i tried out the cheddar and bacon mac & cheese at Sweet Lorraine's Mac & Cheez! Kitchen in the Great Lakes Crossing Outlet. words cannot describe how yummy it was! just look at the picture... so much cheese... so much bacon... and the macaroni wasn't of the run-of-the-mill elbow variety... it was spiral/rotini pasta! it somehow made it even better.

who knew a food court could provide me with something so awesome???

the only drawback? i'd have to go back to Michigan to get it :( sigh.

i know i've been lazy w updating, but did you really think i'd forget to update about my duran duran weekend?

the road trip w jen (my road dog!) was good... we listened to 190 dd songs on shuffle to prepare for the concert... and i drank a million red bulls and ate the best chocolate bar ever (mint 3 Musketeers!!)

we got to Windsor in the early evening and decided to go to Caesar's Palace casino early to engage in some buffet action... but the line up was 103294804958309485 people deep, so we settled on Nathan's hot dogs (that didn't settle quite right?! :S)

the main reason for the trip:

i have a little (understatement) obsession with make up.

not counting the stuff i keep in the bathroom for my everyday applications, everything is kept in my room in a 3ft storage container with shelves. it is packed to the brim and all divided up by different types of make up... eye products, face stuff, lips... in fact, i have 2 different shelves for lip products. lip gloss and.... lipstick.

on a rare saturday without plans, i cracked into the lipstick shelf to do some organizing/downsizing. i never realized how many lipsticks i had... do i really need 26 shades of pink?? (answer = yes)

i really was gonna try to throw out shades i don't wear anymore, but i couldn't bring myself to do it. so i just kinda stacked them neatly and slid the shelf shut.

anyhoo. i'll let the pictures tell the rest.

awesome new nail polish i HAVE to get... an italian cosmetics brand called Layla has come out with a magnetic nailpolish range called Magneffect and i am dying to get my hands on a bottle of it...

apparently it's pretty easy to use too... just paint on a layer of polish, hover a magnet (comes attached to the cap) over it when its wet... and these awesome stripes appear.

just when i thought i couldn't buy anymore nail polish..... sigh.

overall, my venture to the cne with melissa was good this year... except for the severe thunderstorm/tornado watch we decided to ignore.

win: i got to eat the Behemoth burger and mel ate the Krispy Kreme donut burger. mine consisted of two texas toast grilled cheese sammiches, with a burger nestled inbetween. it was huge and i ate as much as i could... my only complaint was that the toast wasn't buttered like a true grilled cheese... hers was a burger w egg (eww) that had 2 Krispy Kreme donuts acting as bread. sounds gross, melissa says otherwise.

win x 2: i also found these eyelashes i stockpiled a few years ago... and British crisps (aka chips), my fave

fail: the weatherman was right and things took a quick turn for the worst... so bad that they shut down the damn cne early and i didn't get to throw my money away on the midway to win something pointless... a yearly tradition. oh well...

MAC is releasing a new collection called Very Cute on april 7th... i'm posting mostly because i really like the promo pic that was released for it (above). i like her rings & nails... obviously! i especially like the pink thigh high stockings w bow accent ;)

the actual collection has a really sweet colour palette that works wonderfully together... pinks, lilacs, baby blues and soft neutrals. on the whole, a lot of the colours are difficult to wear for certain skin tones (everything is suited more for paler, cool toned skin tones) but it's hard not to love it all when you see it.

i'm gonna pick up some of the nail polishes and Plushglass (my fav lipgloss @ MAC) but i think that's about it. my wallet won't be mad at me on the 7th. yay!

the gym - ladies, why?

so i try to go to the gym a few times a week (laziness & food usually win over it, but what can you do...) and i keep noticing the same dumb things... why do women:

1) wear tons of make up at the gym

2) wear thongs at the gym

ok, about #1... i swear by make up everyday... and even i don't put it on at the gym. when you get all sweaty, it clogs your pores and looks gross. is it because you are trying to pick up dudes? i'm thinking most guys might think you might be high maintenance if you have to wear make up to the gym... and lets face it, he's gonna see you w/o make up eventually (if things go as planned) right? did i mention clogged pores? break outs? sweaty dripping make up? just making sure i did...

#2... this is just painful. i do weightlifting classes and there are a few thong wearers in the class... imagine doing 50 consecutive squats wearing a thong. hello, road rash! seriously. how does that feel by the end of the class??? does the VPL (visible panty line, for any guys who have actually read this far) really matter at the gym? meh.

maybe i just wanna go to the gym... do whatever i need to do... and get out. i'm not hanging out and treating it like a bar. i'll save my cheesy one liners for somewhere else, not the elliptical...

Make Up Forever has released an adorable little collection called Tres Vichy. i have a weakness for lashes and i couldn't resist buying these... i thought i had seen and tried everything in the world of false lashes... feathers, rhinestones, coloured... etc. but these babies have teeny pink & white gingham bows on them!

they look so cute in the promo pics, but i have to wonder what they really look like on. i mean, i'm not going to walk around with my eyes closed all day! will they be annoying to wear? i'm sure all these questions will be answered when i find an occasion to wear them. until then, my MUFE Tres Vichy lashes will sit next to my Shu's & MAC's in my make up drawer :)

put in a little extra work on my nails for my birthday party... which was awesome, btw (update soon).

i usually don't wear fake nails, but they worked for the look i was putting together. basically, they are fake talons i painted in a creamy nude (American Apparel Mannequin) and did a gold gradient glitter tip with China Glaze Medallion. to finish it all off, i glued some rhinestones on... real Swarovski, no less. that is the only way to get the real sparkle! (other than diamonds, that is, haha)

i bought some American Apparel polish last week and i'm excited to try it... surprisingly, i've never given it a whirl. the formula seems pretty kick ass... so i will update eventually.

i wouldn't consider myself a slave to trends, but because i work in fashion... you kind of end up in a lot of them by association. if it looks good, wear it, right? at the same time, i end up wearing a lot of stuff that's "out" too... i'm pretty sure i'll be wearing leggings long after they go out of style... sorry trend gods. i can't give them up.

anyways. this spring... whats in? maxi skirts. sorry. i don't think i can do it. maxi dresses, i'm all for. maxi skirt? nope. it's not that i don't like the conservative nature of them, but there is just something about them...

i've been a hectic combination of busy and... lazy lately. since i am sick again (damn you, cold season!) i thought i would put up some overdue posts... starting with valentine's day (haha i know, so late)

sooo.... i've spent a grip on feather earrings (and earrings in general!) lately. i think the short hair brought on the earring parade. a lot of the pairs i've bought have been pretty expensive and sometimes it's hard to get the exact colour you want or the style. something unique and inexpensive is ideal...

great, just great.

so... on my usual trip to american apparel, i saw these "winter leggings" and got excited. i am so ride-or-die for leggings... i will wear them even if they go out of style. they are so comfy, cute and go with almost everything in my wardrobe. i think i might have single-handedly kept AA in business with my stretchy pants purchases...

so, back to the winter leggings. 99% off leggings wearing women will be able to relate to me on this one... your average leggings become see-thru when you bend over (hello, boys!) or when a flashbulb hits them. kinda not what your going for, right? well... these AA leggings are the opposite. not only are they weather appropriate, super soft and flattering (higher waist, instant tummy tuck!) but they are see thru proof. i know this, i did the bend over test in the mirror (that sounded weird.)

ok so i got a little off track to the actual story i wanted to tell... i bought 2 pairs without trying them on... black and latte. i figured latte would be the taupey-grey-greige colour i've liked lately. but i was wrong. really wrong. do you remember the time i wore my peach leggings and people thought i was naked in the mall? this is the 2nd coming of the peachies... naked. again.

i'm always on the hunt for new nail polish and i came across this collection on a nail blog... the "One Less Lonely Girl" collabo between Nicole by OPI and... Justin Bieber. yeah. it's true... Justin Bieber and nail polish. how they relate, i have no idea. i guess it's not a terrible idea, because his 11 yr old fans probably wear it...

anyhoo, i felt good because i didn't like any of the colours and wouldn't have to suffer embarrassment when someone asks "hey, what colour polish are you wearing???"

...until i saw My Lifesaver in the store. it reminds me of one of my fav polishes, China Glaze - For Audrey. only this one is a little peppier. great... it's not that i have anything against the 'Biebs, but i mean... i've already gone thru puberty.

i haven't tried it yet, but it was really nice when i tested it out.

i know i'm 4 days late... but anyways... february hopefully means this is the beginning of the end of all the brutal cold weather and snow we've been having. i mean, yeah... it's canada and i know i signed up for it, but still. this has been a bad one! i'm especially tired of sacrificing fashion for function in my wardrobe. speaking of february... and fashion... i am determined to wear shorts on my birthday, no matter what the weather!

anyhoo. on the brighter side of things, i went to ottawa the other day on a sales trip and it was -31 without the windchill. all of a sudden, the TO weather seems like a warm summer day (ok, not really, but you get it)

i hope all this crap outside my house melts away asap (it's messing up my shoe game)... even tho... it's kinda pretty?

i went bowling recently and to my surprise, all the shoes were new (!!!) and PINK!

i know, all of you are probably thinking... new? wtf? no old, stretched out, stinky, gross bowling shoes. amazing.

truth be told, the new, stiff shoes actually are harder to play in... but yeah, i'll take them over fungus and athlete's foot.

i got off track here, i meant to put the emphasis on the fact they were pink. the alley was supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month. i thought it was fun... my gentleman bowling partner? probably not so much.

i think they helped me smoke him in the first game!

... and probably helped him with the next two.
